I fell in love with Chopin at age six

My aunt gave me a Chopin record the Christmas I was six years old. From that day on I wanted to play piano.
I had lessons, but could only play transcribed Chopin so that there were fewer sharps. His music
is very challenging and beautiful too. He was called "the poet" of the piano.

Impromptu Op. 51 GbMajor - sheet music

I need to find this sheet music.
Anybody have it or know where I can get it?
As Chopin would say, 'I embrace you' and 'write a line'.

Chopin Waltzes

In my opinion Chopin invented jazz when he created his waltzes. I know that when they were heard, listeners sometimes scoffed at them as they were not danceable.

At any rate, if there are others here who share my love of these compositions, could you tell your favorite pianists and their cd's who have interpreted these?

Prelude C# min., Op 45

Does anybody really dig the harmony in this prelude? With the delayed resolutions, added seconds and major sevenths (which really makes it sound like Rachmaninoff, I think), constant modulation. It was written in 1841. Sounds like it could have been written in the late 19th/early twentieth century. I really love this piece.

Any Chopin players here?

Hi Everyone,
I'm Rick, Artistic Director of the California based fusion dance company, BelCobraDance. After a 3 year struggle with attempting to choreograph the Ballade in G minor, first as a solo and then as a duet, I'm almost finished setting it on my partner and I. It's an "old school" romantic duet, a fusion of ballroom, ballet and modern, inspired somewhat by Fred and Ginger, Gene and Lesley, Rudolf and Margot...

Yesterday, not being able to find my Ashkenazy CD, I substituted the Kissin version, which by the third run through of our dance started becoming more comfortable, what with the differences in tempo and rubato emphases between the two. After rehearsal my partner and I were talking, and the idea occured to me that there just might be somebody out there who would be interested in playing it live for us at some point. No big money as yet, although we are starting to get internationally networked (I'll be travelling to the ISPA Congress next month), so my eventual goal is to do more touring and actually get paid.

We will be performing the piece at the Boulder Fringe Festival in August, in addition to a structured dance improvisation set to the Berceuse. I have also choreographed two Nocturnes in the past, and have some ideas about a dance set to Ballade #2, which speaks to me of barely restrained madness. In the Romantic vein, I've also worked in the past with solo piano works by Schubert, Brahms and Rachmaninoff, and I'm currrently also working on Shostakovich's Prelude and Fugue #12, the Prelude being a wonderful passacaglia.

So, glad I found this tribe. Small but beautiful.

Anyone interested?
